In early 1981, the Lafourche Parish School Board began a bold and aggressive move to computerize its' student records and financial operations. Beginning with a department of one technical person, working on a Burroughs B1955, through today's five technical people, using a Unisys ClearPath HMP Enterprise Server, these dedicated individuals have developed over 1,500 programs that touch every aspect of a school system's information needs---from the classroom to the cafeteria, from the bus to the boardroom, from the paycheck to the personnel department, and from the superintendent to the substitute teacher.

By working on a daily basis in face-to-face contact with the users of our software, and with open ears and open minds about what their needs really are, the software has helped to re-define what is truly "user friendly". There is no better illustration of this fact in that over the years, other Louisiana school systems have asked to see this software in operation, then after considering all other options, have offered to purchase the software. With Louisiana school districts including St. Bernard, Assumption, St. Tammany, St. John, St. Martin, St. Mary, West Feliciana, St. James, Bossier, Livingston, Iberia, and Tangipahoa already using or currently installing the software, the Lafourche Parish software has quickly become the most widely used school district software in Louisiana.

The cooperation among school districts using the software has evolved into a type of "consortium", where the exchange of ideas and solutions is beneficial to each district.

In a time when school systems continue to be under-financed, the Lafourche Parish software is the most economical, as well as the most complete solution available to a school system today. The software and hardware costs are far less than comparable systems, and can be scaled to size for the smallest to the largest school systems.

The Lafourche software is 100% database, on-line, flexible, security-conscious, and common-sense based. Rather than spending tens of thousands of dollars on supplemental utility programs to backup or maintain your system, or to use e-mail, or to score your own standardized tests, or to develop new software, or to do ad-hoc inquiries, all these functions are already included in the Lafourche software, in a complete and integrated package.

With all of this going for it, more and more school districts are asking to see what the fuss is all about. To those who think that "home-grown" software from a local school system can't possibly be as good as the stuff from the "big boys", think again...then, ask to see for yourself.
