Terry Eymard's Pond Page |

I started by building four 11 foot long and about 1 foot high walls using pressure-treated 2x4 lumber. |
| I attached the four walls to each other to form a square, trenched the soil beneath the walls where necessary to have all four sides level, and proceeded to dig the pond to about a 10-inch depth to result in a total pond depth of about 22 inches. | ![]() |

I lined the insides of the pond walls with 1" pressure treated boards and drove 4 foot lengths of galvanized pipe through holes drilled through the tops and bottoms of the wall plates to support the walls (In this photo, I'm being helped by 2 1/2 year old Cody Thibodaux). |
| I placed a 15 foot by 15 foot 45 mil EPDM black rubber liner into the pond, filled the pond with water, stapled the liner to the top of the pond walls, started trimming off the excess liner, and began placing plants into the pond. | ![]() |

I finished the outside of the walls with pressure-treated 1x6 decking material and used 2x10 pressure-treated lumber to finish the tops of the pond walls forming a bench on all sides. (This and the remaining photos were taken about 6 weeks after first filling the pond.) |
| The plants include Fabiola Pink and red water lilies, Anacharis, snowflake, Pickeral Rush, Lizard's Tail, Dwarf Umbrella Palm, Parrots Feather, and native blue Louisiana Iris. All of the plants were donations from neighbors with established ponds. | ![]() |

I stocked the pond with 29 cent goldfish from Wal-Mart and some larger goldfish from my neighbor's pond. In addition, the neighbor's goldfish had placed eggs on the Anacharis plants placed in my pond and I now have close to one hundred baby goldfish. I feed crushed commercial dry cat food to the fish. |

This pond is located in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The pond and this page were designed and constructed by Terry Eymard. Special thanks go out to my neighbor, John Robichaux, for his assistance with the pond design and his donation of the majority of the plants and some goldfish for the pond. |
